NC-SARA Approved Institution logoMuskegon Community College has been approved by the State of Michigan to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of post-secondary distance education.

Courses

Online courses at Muskegon Community College are open to eligible students residing in a state covered by the NC-SARA agreement. It is the student’s responsibility to determine the transferability of any given course.

Online Programs 

Associates of Science and Arts in Early Childhood Education
Early Childhood Education (EDUC-AAS)

This degree aligns with the National Association for the Education of Young Children standards and is focused on understanding the development of children from birth to eight years of age through hands on practical fieldwork and classroom instruction. An emphasis will be placed on an anti-bias curriculum covering the physical, intellectual, emotional and social domains of development. Students will be prepared for the Child Development Associate (CDA) assessment process, as part of the national credential recognized by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition. https://www.cdacouncil.org/

A wide variety of potential jobs with the associate degree only may include preschool assistant, preschool aide, nutritional aide, daycare provider, preschool teacher, home visitor, center director, and family advocate. This program is designed for students wishing to transfer to a four-year college to continue for a bachelor’s degree.

Additional Degree Requirements:  Background check: state laws requires a criminal background check of students interested in the field of Education ,and students have to pass a criminal background check before starting fieldwork. Fieldwork is required in a licensed preschool center based environment with at least 10 children enrolled between 3-5 years old. 25 hours are required in each education course. The ED 252A course will require additional hours.

Child Development Associate Certificate (EDUC-CERT)
