The MCC softball team, competing in Florida, lost 13-0 to Heartland CC and 20-3 to Delta College on March 9, then defeated the Anderson University JV 13-11 and lost 10-8 to Mercyhurst NE on March 11. The Jayhawks are now 4-8 overall.

The MCC women’s basketball team lost 66-57 to Lake Michigan College on March 9 in the NJCAA District 12 Region 9 semifinal game in Port Huron, MI. The Jayhawks end the season with a 22-7 record and as the 2018 Michigan Community College Athletic Association champions.

In the National Junior College Athletic Association District 12, Region 9 semifinal, the MCC men’s basketball team forced the nation’s second ranked team Ancilla College into overtime on March 8 before losing 94-88. The Jayhawks finish the season with a 16-14 record.

Women’s Bowling

The MCC women’s bowling team finished fifth in the nation at the NJCAA Championships in Buffalo, NY, on March 2-3. Jamie Perry was seventh nationally in the singles competition and 17th in the all-events standings. The doubles team of Breanna Stroven and Ashlyn Cross took 16th in the nation.

Two Jayhawk wrestlers earned All-American honors – Benny Gomez who took second at 125 pounds and Baker Hadwan who was third at 197 pounds – to help MCC place 14th in the nation at the 2018 NJCAA Wrestling Championships Feb. 23-24 in Iowa.

Evan Kaufman was the pole vault champion and Armund Gordon was the high jump champion to lead the Jayhawks to a third place finish at the NJCAA Region XII Meet at Hillsdale College on Feb. 17.

Sophomore Robbie Berg became the first-ever Jayhawk volleyball player to earn NJCAA Div. II First Team All-American honors. The 26-17 Jayhawks were ranked 19th in the nation and advanced to the 2017 MCCAA championship match and the semifinals of the 2017 NJCAA Region XII Championships.

The MCC women finished 30th in the nation at the NJCAA Cross Country Championship in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Nov. 11, when Jayhawk sophomore Kendra Irvine tied her personal best college time to place 136th in the country.
