Muskegon Community College opened the 2017-18 season with a road loss to Oakland Community College, 98-78.
The Jayhawks were led by sophomore guard Daryl Kirkland II (Muskegon HS) with a game high 34 points and freshman Josh Smith (Lansing Waverly HS) with 22 points.
“We knew going in that our ability to rebound and take care of the ball was going to be huge because of the style and size that Oakland plays with,” said Head Coach Jimmy Booth. “We didn’t do a good enough job at either of those things and I thought that was the difference in the game. We are extremely young and I think that showed. But I am extremely proud of how hard we competed for 40 minutes. We have to do a better job at executing on both ends of the floor.”
