The Muskegon Community College softball team swept Grand Rapids Community College with scores of 11-8 in game one and 5-3 (9 innings) in game two.
In game one the Jayhawks collected 14 hits, led by Kirsten Johnson (Lakeview HS) with 3 hits, including her 11th home run. Brooklyn Samlow (Fruitport HS) also had 3 hits, followed by Hannah Smith (Montague HS), Brandi Rice (Montague HS) and Alessa Buchner (Oakridge HS) all with 2 hits each. Mickayla MacGeorge (Allendale HS) threw 4 spotless innings to earn the save as Kirsten Sweet (Fruitport HS) picked up the win.
Game 2 was a battle with GRCC matching MCC in scoring opportunites. The Jayhawks got a clutch 2 out hit from Mackenzie Quinn (Mona Shores HS) to score 2 in the 9th innings for the Jayhawk win. Alyssa Slade (Ravenna HS) had an RBI double in the 7th inning to tie the game and send it to extra innings. MacGeorge picked up the win on the mound and added 3 hits to help the cause. Buchner, Samlow, and Quinn each had 2 hits. MacGeorge was brilliant on the mound and overcame some miscues by the defense, allowing only 6 hits in 9 innings.
With the sweep the Jayhawks are now 3-7 in conference play and 8-15 overall. They are scheduled to play Lansing Community College on Saturday, 4/14 but the weather may force a postponment.
