The Jayhawk men’s and women’s track teams opened the 2018 indoor season at GVSU.
On the men’s side, Armund Gordon (Reeths Puffer HS) kicked off his collegiate career with a sixth place finish in the high jump with a jump of 6’4.25″. Sophomore Justin Tokarczyk (Mona Shores HS) placed 5th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds. The men’s Sprint group had many strong performances in an elite group of competitors. Jake Hobeke (Hart HS), Anthony Guatileri ( Allendale HS) and Caleb Sidok (Orchard View HS) had strong performances in the 60m and 200m open races. Kyle Bennham (North Muskegon HS) and Jake Phillips (Grand Haven HS) had great performances for the distance group. Derek Monje (Fruitport HS) started his college career with a 31′ toss in the weight throw. Sophomore Joe Marsh (Montague HS) kicked off his season with a 37′ throw in the shot put.
For the women, Hannah Heitzelman (Cedar Springs HS) and Kelly Brown(Fruitport HS) represented the women’s team with strong performances in the mile and 600m runs.
The Jayhawks look to improve on this season opener next week when they return to GVSU for the Mike Lints Alumni open. Events start at 1:00 pm on Saturday, 1/27 at the Kelly Family Sports Complex.
