The Jayhawks defeated the league leading and #15 ranked Mid Michigan Community College Lakers by a score of 68-63.
MCC got a strong performance off the bench from Iyana Brown (Fruitport HS) with 21 points, 15 boards and 5 blocked shots. Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds despite being double-teamed for much of the game. Point guard Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) chipped in with 13 points.
“This was such a fun, exciting win for our team and I am proud of our effort tonight,” said Head Coach Amanda Parker. “We were really focused all game long and played great defensively. We had a few lapses in regards to rebounding and on the offensive end, but those are all fixable things. We will enjoy this win for today, but we cannot sit back and be satisfied because we play another tough team in Lake Michigan on Saturday”.
With the win MCC pulls into a 4-way tie atop the Western Conference with a 5-1 record. They are 12-5 overall. Next action will be a home game with Lake Michigan College, who is also 5-1, on Saturday, 1/27. Tip off is 1:00 pm.
