Muskegon Community College picked up a road victory over St. Clair County Community College by a score of 100-48.
The Jayhawks jumped out to a 24-7 lead after the first quarter, but struggled to score against St. clair’s 2-3 zone defense in the second quarter. The Skippers were able to work the ball inside and also grabbed 7 offensive rebounds but the Jayhawks managed to keep a 46-33 half time lead, thanks to the 3 point shot. In the 3rd and 4th quarters the Jayhawks picked up the defense pressure and energy and everybody saw playing time as they cruised to the 52 point victory.
Iyana Brown (Fruitport HS) led the Jayhawks with 18 points and 6 steals, followed by Delaney Bolles (Fruitport HS) with 16 points and a game high 17 boards. Brooke Larabee (Reeths-Puffer HS) scored 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and Elysia Mattos finishied with 15 points and 7 assists. Artrese Williams (Reeths-Puffer HS) rounded out the double digit scorers with 14.
“Overall, I was pleased that we got everybody involved in such a fun, exciting win,” said Head Coach Amanda Parker. “Having 5 people in double figures and 2 with double-doubles is a true testament of what this team is capable of on any given night. However, we cannot have let-downs like we did in the 2nd quarter and we will continue to figure out why that happens and correct it before we get into conference play. We have a huge game coming up next Saturday vs. Owens so none of us are going to become complacent with this huge win. We will remain focused & hungry and we look forward to having a good week of practice to prepare ourselves for the challenge ahead of us.”
The Jayhawks are now 6-3 overall. They will host Owens Community College at 1:00 pm on Saturday, 12/16.
