Muskegon Community College avenged their only conference loss by defeating Ancilla College 76-62. The win keeps MCC on pace with Mid Michigan Community College at the top of the Western Conference.
The Jayhawks were led by Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) and Iyana Brown (Fruitport HS) who each scored 23 points. Bolles added 10 rebounds and 2 blocked shots while Brown grabbed 6 boards and had 2 steals. Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) overcame a shoulder injury to grab a team high 11 rebounds and hand out 9 assists, Tierra Williams (Muskegon HS) continued her steady play with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks and Ashantai Hale-Sandifer (Loy Norrix HS) came of the bench with 8 points. The defense was good, led by Sam Taylor (Cedar Springs HS) who drew the assignment of guarding the best player for Ancilla.
“This was a must win for us tonight because Ancilla had beaten us in the 1st round,” said Head Coach Amanda Parker. “We really needed to play well defensively and I thought we did just that. We were very focused and communicated great. I am really proud of these ladies for sticking together against a tough Ancilla team.”
MCC is now 8-1 in conference play and 15-5 overall. On Wednesday they travel to Grand Rapids Community College for a 5:30 pm game with the Raiders.
