Muskegon Community College roared back from 16 down for a huge 74-68 victory over the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks. The Jayhawks got off to a slow start and spent the whole game playing catch-up; they wouldn’t take the lead until the last 2 minutes of the game. The 4th quarter was pivotal as they outscored LMC 27-14.
The Jayhawks got balanced scoring from Delaney Bolles (Reeths-Puffer HS) who finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Tierra Williams (Muskegon HS) with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Iyana Brown (Fruitport HS) with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Elysia Mattos (Reeths-Puffer HS) finished out the double digit scorers with 10 points and 4 assists.
“This was a big win for our program and it was truly exciting to be a part of,” said Head Coach Amanda Parker. “It was so awesome to see the fight in our players, especially after we put ourselves in a hole from the get-go. They truly never gave up and kept plugging away at LMC’s lead until the end. Moving forward, we have to continue improving and not allow ourselves to get down so early in games. However, we are an extremely young group and this will only get better with time.”
With the win the Jayhawks remain in a 3 way tie for first place at 6-1 in the conference, 13-5 overall. Next up is a trip to Jackson College for a 5:30 matchup with the Jets.
