If you are a potential college student, the parent of a potential college student, or in any way related to any of these people, then chances are that you have heard about the FAFSA.

The financial aid process begins with submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online after January 1 of the year you plan to enroll. The FAFSA evaluates eligibility for need-based aid, including federal loans, and gives students access to need-based grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study.

We worry so much about the FAFSA before college, so that we do not have to worry so much about debt after college. In more specific terms, the FAFSA is important because:

  •  It makes you eligible for the most student-friendly aid you will find.
  •  Nearly everyone who applies will be eligible for some sort of aid.
  •  Aid is generally offered regardless of credit history.
  •  Federal loans generally have better repayment terms than private loans.

For assistance in completing your FAFSA, attend one of MCC’s FAFSA Fridays sessions held on the following dates from 1-3 p.m. in Room 116A:
