New Science Center Receives Roaring Support at Founder's Day
More than 170 guests filled The Lake House in downtown Muskegon for the 2013 Founder’s Day celebration on Thursday evening, Sept. 19, when the Foundation for Muskegon Community College raied $16,333 for improving the college’s science equipment and facilities.
“Founder’s Day honors our past, while promising a brighter future,” explained Tina Dee, the Foundation director. “We enjoyed hosting our esteemed alumni, community leaders, and other friends of higher education. It was great fun.”
“Even better than that is the fact that we made an impact in raising the funds needed to improve science equipment and facilities. We must maintain state-of-the-art classrooms and labs in order to improve the region’s talent and meet diverse workforce needs.”
The 2013 profits represented a 30 percent increase from the previous year, while Founder's Day attendence jumped nearly 60 percent from 2012, said Dee.
A record nine musicians performed with the Muskegon All-Star Revue, the “unofficial” house band for Founder’s Day, while the guests, many donned in 1920s era attire to keep with the Roaring Twenties theme, bid on more than 80 silent auction items donated by the campus and community.
“I very much appreciate the support of our generous sponsors and all those who contributed to the success of this year’s event,” said Dee.
