International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, and is a part of our efforts at MCC to promote programs that prepare students for a global enviornment.

Monday, Nov. 12
12th Annual International Student Panel Discussion
Room 1100, 6:45-8 p.m.
Meet some of our international students as they talk about their homeland. Student speakers to be announced. Last year's speakers were from Brazil, Taiwan, China, The Gambia, Bosnia and Costa Rica
Last year’s event drew over 70 MCC students to listen to our international students. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and take notes. Plan to attend this lively discussion of cultures on a personal level.
Our moderator next year will be Papa N'jai, Chair of the Social Science Department. Papa N'Jai is a native of Sierra Leone, West Africa, and teaches geography, anthropology and cultural diversity classes at Muskegon Community College. Papa N'Jai is active in many MCC events that promote cultural diversity and was a past keynote speaker at MCC's Global Awareness Festival.

International Feature Film — Lawrence of Arabia
Blue & Gold Room, 6:30 p.m.
Thomas Lawrence blazed his way to glory in the Arabian Desert. As a young British intelligence officer in Cairo 1916, he organizes a guerilla army and for two years leads the Arabs in harassing the Turks with desert raids, train-wrecking and camel attacks; eventually helping a British General destroy the power of the Ottoman Empire. This film stars Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness and Anthony Quinn.

Travelogue "Oxford"
Blue & Gold Room, 7-8 p.m.
Join one of MCC’s most traveled instructors, Kurt Troutman, as he presents an exciting cultural trip to "the city of dreaming spires," Oxford, England. Oxford University has been at the forefront of understanding the world and shaping it for centuries. Since the Enlightenment, Oxford has been one of the world's most influential and international univerisites.
Oxford was the first University in the English-speaking world and has a distinctive college and tutorial system with a culture of close academic supervision. Students from more than a hundred and forty countries and territories make up a student population of over twenty thousand.
Kurt Troutman came to Muskegon in August 2002. He holds degrees in political science, focusing upon international politics. He currently teaches political science and international relations. He also leads annual excursions to Gettysburg and Vicksburg presented by the MCC's Social Sciences Department. Kurt has also travelled to Russia on a Fulbright Hays GPA with the Midwest Institute for International/Intercultural Education(MIIIE).
A pre-presentation reception will be held at 6:45 p.m. with samples of British cuisine available.
