The archival depository for Muskegon Community College is in the Hendrik Meijer Library/Information Technology Center. Contained here are:
- Meeting minutes of committees, councils and The Board of Trustees
- College Handbooks
- Programs, and
- other historical print publications
Materials and publications are mainly created by offices and departments within Muskegon Community College; however, materials and publicity from external sources such as The Muskegon Chronicle are also available. In addition, there is a wide variety of non-print items and memorabilia.
The Archives contains the students’ Literary Magazine publications of original prose, poetry and artwork dating back to 1959. The publication, which has changed names over the years, was first titled Chanticleer, then Stark Naked, and is currently titled River Voices. An index to these publications is available in Excel format or in HTML format (requires Microsoft Internet Explorer to view.) The index includes the name of student, title of work, genre, publication, issue and date.
Just one of many items located in the Archive is Alfred Lambert’s scrapbook. Alfred Lambert was among the first Muskegon Junior College students. Besides being the captain of the first football team, he was active in many other sports. He compiled this scrapbook in an old ledger. It is one of the few pieces in the Archive for this early time period.
All of the pictures, newspaper articles and memorabilia have been converted to .pdf files and will eventually be added to this site.
