The 29th Annual Muskegon Community College CAD/Drafting Contest takes place Friday, March 20, from 9:30-11:15 a.m. in Rooms 244, 244-1, 248, 502 and 506.

Sponsored by MCC, the West Michigan Chapter of the American Foundry Society and many local businesses/educational institutions, the competition is open to high school and tech centers students from local counties.

Entrants compete in four divisions: Beginning Sketching, Beginning 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Modeling, and 3D Solid Modeling/Assembly/Drawing. The winners will receive plaques, certificates and prizes. Prizes include MCC class tuition, jump drives, iTunes cards and gift cards.

After the students complete their work, they will receive a MCC campus tour and lunch while their drawings are judged by a committee along with other volunteer professionals working in drafting related fields. Plaques and prizes will be presented at an awards ceremony beginning at 1:15 p.m. in Stevenson Center Room 1200.

The contest has evolved from strictly a drafting board contest to primarily a CAD contest with one sketching division. The event provides an opportunity for area high school students to demonstrate the skills they have learned and to encourage them to consider a career in a technical or manufacturing field.

Last year, more than 90 students participated from eight regional schools: Coopersville High School, Fruitport High School, Holland Christian High School, Hudsonville High School, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, Newaygo County Career Tech Center, Reeths-Puffer High School and Unity Christian High School.
