30th Annual CAD/Drafting Contest on Dec. 2

CAD Drafting Contest 2014 at MCC

The 30th Annual MCC CAD/Drafting Contest for high school and tech center students who reside in local counties will be held at Muskegon Community College on Friday Dec. 2.

The students compete in four divisions: Beginning Sketching, Beginning 2D AutoCAD, 3D Solid Modeling, and 3D Solid Modeling/Assembly/Drawing.

“It provides an opportunity for area high school students to demonstrate the skills they have learned and to encourage them to consider a career in a technical or manufacturing field,” said Kathy Liefer, an instructor in MCC’s Applied Technology Department and coordinator of the event.

After the students complete their work, their drawings are judged by the committee along with other volunteer professionals working in drafting related fields. Students will tour the MCC applied technology facilities, eat lunch, and then attend the award ceremony at 1:15 p.m.

The contest is sponsored by MCC, The West Michigan Chapter of the American Foundry Society and many local businesses/educational institutions. Last year, nearly 90 students from nine schools across Muskegon, Ottawa and Newaygo counties participated.
