36th Annual Mayfest at MCC

The 36th annual Mayfest, a family friendly event, comes to the Muskegon Community College campus this Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.

Organized by MCC and the United Way of the Lakeshore along with a volunteer committee of representatives from a variety of area agencies, Mayfest celebrates education by providing informative, fun-filled activities geared to youngsters.

“We have many exhibitors, performing acts and enjoyable activities to keep visitors busy all day,” said Amy James, this year’s Mayfest event coordinator. “Home Depot will be here with interactive building projects. We’ll have a photo booth, our ever-popular trackless train and, of courses, inflatables play areas for the children.”

“Kids under 10 years of age are eligible for a $25 Toys R Us Gift card by coloring a Mayfest coloring sheet that can be downloaded at www.muskegoncc.edu/mayfest and brought to Mayfest,” added James. “Gift cards will be awarded in three different age groups: up to 4 years, 5-6 years and 7-10 years.”

Thousands annually attend the much-anticipated springtime event, she added, noting that they are treated to a firsthand experience of the young talent in our community.

“There will be a Goodwill truck here so you can bring your small electronics and have them recycled for free,” noted James. “Also, we are excited to be hosting many Showcase students on our stages, and an art show from area schools.”
