The 30th Annual Muskegon Community College CAD/Drafting Contest attracted 70 students from six schools to the Muskegon Community College campus on Friday, Dec. 2.
The event, coordinated by MCC Instructor Kathleen Liefer, is sponsored by American Foundry Society and many local business and educational institutions. Prizes were awarded to the top finishers in four divisions. This year’s winners are:
Division 1: Beginning Sketching
For this division, the students were given a part that was printed on our 3D printer. They had to measure the part and then create a pencil sketch of that part.

- 3rd Place – Zackary VanDyke, Hudsonville Unity Christian High School
- Honorable Mention – Ben Mulder, Holland Christian High School

Division 2: Beginning 2D AutoCAD 2017
This division is very similar to Division 1 in terms of the drawing complexity, except in Division 2 the students had to create their drawings using AutoCAD (2D).

- 3rd Place – Dan Pavlich, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center

Division 3: 3D Solid Modeling
For this division, the students were given a very complex drawing problem. They had to create a solid model of the part using AutoCAD 2017 3D (Solid Modeler), Inventor 2017 or SolidWorks 2016.

Division 4: 3D Solid Modeling/Assembly/Drawing
In Division 4, students were asked to complete a project. They had to model several parts, assemble those parts and create an assembly drawing with multiple views, balloons and a complete bill of material using AutoCAD 2017 3D (Solid Modeler), Inventor 2017 or SolidWorks 2016.
