Anthony Kolenic Receives MCC’s 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award

MCC 2012 Distinguished Alumni, Anthony Kolenic Jr., J.D.Muskegon Community College is pleased to announce the selection of Anthony Kolenic Jr., J.D. as recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award. A tradition for many years at MCC, the Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor that Muskegon Community College bestows upon an outstanding alumnus whose personal life, professional achievements, and community service exemplify the objectives of their alma mater.

Mr. Kolenic was selected by the Alumni Relations Committee and MCC staff leadership and will be honored at the Distinguished Alumni Award dinner before the MCC commencement ceremony in April. In addition to Mr. Kolenic, the field of exceptional nominees for this year’s award included Ronald Philip Balaskovitz, Janie Brooks, Joshua Mueller, April Marie Porter, and Dorothy Jeanette Scott.

“This college is a real gem in our community … a real treasure,” says Kolenic. “My instructors at MCC were absolutely outstanding, and every single one of them helped me.”

Graduating from MCC in 1973 with an associate’s degree, Kolenic attended Michigan State University for his bachelor’s degree, and then completed his Juris Doctor (JD) in 1977 magna cum laude at the University of Michigan. Kolenic has extensive experience in the area of benefit plans and executive compensation within the private and governmental sectors. Named Michigan Super-Lawyer for six consecutive years, Kolenic has worked for more than 30 years for Warner Norcross & Judd as an attorney, and was rated one of the Best Lawyers in America by Employee Benefits Law from 1995 to 2012.

Mr. Kolenic has always been present in the community as past-president and present board member of Muskegon County Catholic Education Foundation and president of the Muskegon County Museum. He resides in Muskegon.
