Muskegon Community College will present “A Springtime of Music” on Sunday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in Overbrook Theater. The event is free and open to the public. Highlighting the evening is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy Opus 80 for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra.

Piano virtuoso Dr. Solee Lee-Clark will be supported by the Muskegon Area Honors Orchestra, which is comprised of high school and community college students selected for their superior musical capabilities. Joining the performance will be a quartet of professional choral soloists and the MCC College Singers.

In addition to conducting Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Philip DeYoung will lead the orchestra in Academic Festival Overture (Opus 80) by Johannes Brahms and Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez.

Also on the program, the MCC Collegiates Choir will perform R. Vaughan William’s Serenade to Music. This inspiring work uses as lyrics from the fifth act of Williams Shakespeare’s classic play, The Merchant of Venice.  This selection was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the Bard’s 400-year legacy in English Literature.

Thomas Clark directs the College Singers and Collegiates Choir of Muskegon Community College. The College Singers are accompanied by Dr. Solee Lee-Clark, while Collegiates Choir is accompanied by Ms. Cheryl Lohman.
