MSU-MCC Agricultural Program Open House

8/15/2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Muskegon Community College will host an informational open house for Michigan State University’s Institute of Agriculture Technology (IAT) on Monday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Center Room 1224 on MCC’s main campus.

The new program, a collaboration between MCC and MSU’s IAT, leads to an associate’s degree in agriculture at MCC and offers agriculture-related certificates provided by MSU. Students will co-enroll at MCC and MSU and take courses at both institutions. The MSU courses will be offered locally at MCC’s area locations and online, as appropriate. The three MSU certificate programs starting this fall are: Agriculture Operations, Landscape Management, and Fruit and Vegetable Crop Management.

“There is an incredible demand for students in the agriculture industry,” stated Clarence Rudat, MSU Coordinator for the program.  “Last year over 26,000 jobs went unfilled in the agriculture sector due to a lack of qualified individuals in the work force.  With West Michigan agriculture generating over one billion dollars in revenue, the demand for employees is only going to continue increase.”

The open house will give prospective students an overview of the program, the technical skills that the industry is seeking, internship opportunities, and a look at the jobs that are available in the west Michigan area.

For more information about the open house or about the new agriculture program in general, please contact Clarence Rudat, MSU Program Coordinator at Muskegon Community College at (231) 777-0576, or by email at rudatcla@msu.edu. More information is also available at www.muskegoncc.edu/agriculture.
