The public is invited to attend a lecture on “Progress and Challenges in Parkinson’s Disease” by Kathy Steece-Collier, Ph.D., a professor in MSU’s Department of Translational Science and Molecular Medicine. The talk, which runs from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, will be held at the Grand Valley State University Robert B. Annis Water Resources Institute, 740 West Shoreline Dr., Muskegon.

The lecture is part of the Michigan Community College Biology Fall Meeting, with an anticipated 50 biology faculty members participating from Michigan’s 29 community colleges, hosted by Muskegon Community College.

Steece-Collier received a dual B.S. with honors in Chemistry and Biology at Eureka College, and a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. She did her post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Rochester studying transplantation of new dopamine neurons as an experimental regenerative therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.

For the past two decades, she has focused her research on developing improved therapeutics for individuals with Parkinson ’s disease. Her research has been funded, in part, by National Institutes of Health, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, and the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.
