Wesley Hall to Address Unity Breakfast

The 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast on Friday, Jan. 16,  in  MCC’s Collegiate Hall features a presentation by Wesley Hall, a nationally known author on the topic of engaging boys of color in paths to success.

Tickets to the event, which begins at 7:30 a.m., can be purchased at the Frauenthal Box Office or the MCC Bookstore, both during their normal business hours. The cost is $25 per person or $250 for a reserved table for eight. Doors open at 7:15 a.m. Call (231) 777-0569 for more information.

The annual event celebrates the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and seeks to build understanding in the community.  In addition to the lecture. Hall will participate in a community forum on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. in Muskegon Heights High School at 2441 Sanford St. Hall will be joined by Fred Johnson, Gregory Pittman and D.J. Hilson. The forum is free and designed for youth, who are encouraged to come with parents, mentors, and community leaders.

Named a “Successpert” in 2001 by Black Entertainment Magazine, Hall is a renowned national keynote speaker, radio talk show host, author, and educator. He founded the Institute for Student Empowerment. He has broadcasted in some of the top markets in the country, including Oakland/San Francisco and Los Angeles, Calif.

His book You Are the Money! received national acclaim as has his work with teachers and students. The Washington Post featured Hall and his “Success Strategies for Working with Disengaged Students.”

Hall currently serves as an Empowerment Coach for the Los Angeles Unified School District and is active in the district’s rollout of President Obama’s initiative to boys of color called “My Brother’s Keeper.” Developing the “Student Voice” and creating youth-driven solutions is also a critical aspect of Hall’s work throughout the district. He recently released his new children’s book, Jack and the Sly Fox.
