MCC Holiday Concert Downtown Dec. 7

A vire from the choir loft of United Methodist Church of the MCC Holiday Pops Concert

MCC’s talented musicians and singers will fill Central United Methodist Church with the joyous sounds of the season during their annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 7.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children. The church is located in downtown Muskegon at 1011 Second St.

The College Singers, conducted by Thomas J. Clark with accompanist Dr. Solee Lee-Clark, will feature special guest performer, contralto Gwenneth Bean. They will sing “Sanctus” by Charles Gounod            from Messe Solennelle and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” arrangement by David Cherwien.

The Collegiates, conducted by Thomas J Clark, will sing “Gloria” by John Ness Beck and “Poor Little Jesus,” a traditional spiritual, arrangement by John S. Dixon.

MCC’s Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Timothy Froncek, will perform five selections: “Green Onions” arrangement by Roger Holmes; “A Night in Tunisia” arrangement by Micheal Sweeney; “601 Blues” by Mark Taylor; “Hip-Hug-Her” arrangement by Roger Holmes; and “Bari Bari Good” by Andy Clark.

The MCC Wind Ensemble, conducted by Daniel M. Meyers, will conclude the concert with five traditional Christmas melodies: “Christmas Finale” arrangement by Paul Jennings; “Christmas Eve/ Sarajevo 12/24” arrangement by Bob Phillips and George Megaw; “Academic Festival Overture” arrangement  by James Curnow; “Hallelujah Chorus” arrangement by Clair W. Johnson; and “Gloria” by Randol Alan Bass.

The Brass Ensemble will be playing multiple melodies of Christmas carols. The Flute Quartet will perform “Let It Snow” and “Dance of the Reed Place” from The Nutcracker. The Saxophone Quartet will play “Sleigh Ride.”
