The Gene Haas Foundation awarded a $20,000 grant to Muskegon Community College on March 7 to support scholarships for current and future students enrolled in machining and CAD/CNC programs at the college.

Fred Schultz, the educational liaison for the Gene Haas Foundation, presented the gift to MCC during a ceremony held at the MCC Downtown Center. After renovations are completed in August 2017, MCC’s machining programs will move to the downtown site from the Tech Center on campus.

“The Gene Haas Foundation is dedicated to manufacturing education and is pleased to support students interested in machining at Muskegon Community College,” said Schultz.

“We are grateful for this generous gift that will allow our students to pursue careers in this field important to our region,” said MCC President Dale K. Nesbary. “These positions are in a high-demand industry. Hopefully, these new scholarships will current and future students achieve their dreams with an education leading to a fulfilling career.”

Presently, approximately a combined 500 students are enrolled in the MCC machining and CAD/CNC programs.

The Gene Haas Scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, and books at MCC, where the recipient may receive up to $2,500 for a semester. Applicants can be in-district or out-of-district students, and part-time or full-time students. The application deadline is April 15, 2016.
