Subimago, an exhibition of challenging and inventive video installations by Toledo-based artist and “tinkerer” Michael Arrigo will be on display on the MCC campus starting March 12 through April 26, 2012 in the Overbrook Gallery. A reception hosted by the artist himself will take place Wednesday April 18 from 6 – 7:30pm with an artist’s talk at 6:30pm. Admission is free and the community is encouraged to take part.
Michael Arrigo is a professor of art at Bowling Green University, serves as the President of the Toledo Federation of Art Societies and as a National AP Portfolio Reviewer. He has also directed “Young Artists at Work,” a nationally recognized arts outreach program for young adults.
This multi-disciplinary artist enjoys exposing the complexity of modern everyday life through objects that we encounter on a daily basis, and uncovering something new and radical that lies just beneath the surface of the world we think we know.
“As an artist I think of myself as a ‘tinkerer,’” Arrigo says. “I go into the studio and take ideas, language, electronics— everything apart to see how it works. I attempt to put these bits and pieces back together in ways that expose underlying structures and unexpected tensions in the fabric of the everyday.”
