The award winners in the 52nd Annual MCC Student Art and Design Exhibition were announced on June 2 during a reception and ceremony in Overbrook Gallery and Overbrook Theater.

The gallery exhibit includes artwork selected by MCC art and design faculty from several thousand pieces produced by more than 500 students. This year’s independent juror who is a practicing art professional was John Dempsey, art instructor at Mott Community College in Flint.

Veronica Lamphere won the first place prize of $400 for her clay ceramic piece titled “Patience.” Kaytee Walker won $300 for her second place self-portrait in ink and watercolor. The third place prize of $200 went to Addie Lou Garter for her figure drawing.

Four $100 honorable mention prizes went to: John Golliver for his mixed media work; to Kaytlyn Robart, Isiah Rodriguez, Maria Sorensen and Tyler Wambaugh for their video “Found Objects”; to Marissa Hassevoort for her ceramic work; and to Jeff Hellmann for his ceramic piece.

The President’s Purchase Award, selected by MCC President Dale K. Nesbary, and added to the MCC Art Collection, was Kellie Smallegan’s still life value range study.

The public can view the entire exhibition free of charge. Overbrook Art Gallery summer hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.  Please call 777-0324 for more information.
