Studio on Stage in Overbrook April 18-19

Muskegon Community College’s Overbrook Theater presents the annual Studio On Stage on April 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Overbrook Theater. Studio On Stage is the annual showcase of combined theater and dance students’ classroom creations or “works in progress.”

This year’s theater performance focuses on Changing Circumstances – One scene.  Two actors.  Two situations.  MCC theater students are discovering how the same dialogue can work in different circumstances and have a multiplicity of meanings.  Each scene will be performed in two distinctly different ways. (It’s not déjà vu — you will experience the same scene twice!) This exercise develops the actor’s awareness of objectives, obstacles, and verbal action. Students from the MCC Acting II class, taught by Sheila Wahamaki, are Gabe Ashendorf, Nealon Bradley, Blair Broussard, Dustin Day, Austin Howard, Tracie Hutson, Taylor Kula, Erin Mickelson, Tre Perry, Michael Pollock, Jordan Potter, John Riegler, Javen Robinson, Jenisha Robinson, Sean Rust, Tria Savage, Jawlon Smith, Shelby Stokes, and Nic Temple.

The MCC Dance Department will present dance pieces choreographed by both faculty and students. Dance students are studying modern and modern jazz dance forms along with the choreography and design course. Lead by instructors Cathy Gamby-Weideman and Sarah Powell, the evening will be filled with both solo and group dances. The newly formed MCC Repertory Dance Company will also perform.

The performance will feature students from Modern Jazz II: Quincy Booker, Krissy Bowden, Samantha Briggs, Carley Cribley, Sarah Fagan, Becca Lamie, Haley Langejans, Bonny Lownds, Michael Pollock, Faith Troyer, Alex Vandervere, Casey Wallace; Modern II: Lauren Thiele; Dance, Choreography and Design: Quincy Booker, Carley Cribley, Andria Dust, Becca LaMie, Rudy Legaria, Markaya McBean, Will Risley, Kendra Sayers, Tricia Smith, Kim Sorenson, Meaghan Valles, Kaitlin Vanderwest, and Casey Wallace; and the MCC Repertory Dance Company: Sam Briggs, Davante Buie, Becca LaMie, Haley Langejans, Kaitlin Vanderwest.
