Unity Day Roundtable Talks Generate Community Action Steps

2016 Unity Day Roundtable Discussions

The Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Day activities on Jan. 15, which began with a talk by Harvey Hollins III in MCC’s Collegiate Hall, continued that morning with roundtable discussions at Baker College.

Facilitated by the Unity Breakfast Planning Committee and moderated by Dr. DeAnna Burt-Johnson, Vice President for Academic Services at Baker College, the productive talks took place around 11 tables and included Hollins, Muskegon Mayor Steve Gawron, Norton Shores Mayor Gary Nelund, Muskegon Heights Mayor Kim Sims, and more than 80 community members.

The discussions produced action steps toward improving issues facing the urban communities in the greater Muskegon area. Click here to view a complete report of the roundtable discussions.

The Unity Breakfast Planning Committee will evaluate further sessions and follow-ups to the conversations.
