Online courses:  What will it be like to take online Beginning Algebra?  I will use streaming media mini-Lessons, Reading assignments and a homework management system called WebAssign.  Our learning management system will be Blackboard, with integrated WebAssign.  A variety of materials are available for help on online homework problems, including lesson videoes for each sections with guided notes.  On-campus tutoring is also available.  Five chapter tests must be taken in the MCC test center (or other approved testing center) througout the semester.

Hybrid Courses:  The name "hybrid' is sometimes misunderstood.  It is not a 50/50 split between classroom and online classtime--The majority of learning takes place online.  Most of the in-person classtime will be dedicated to taking tests and quizzes, and going over major new concepts.   Homework is completed online through a homework managemenet system call MyMath Lab (MML) which provides instant feedback and additional instruction.  It is critical to student success in a hybrid course that students are fully prepared when they come to class so that the limited in-person class time can be used efficiently and effectively.  In addition to MML, I will be using guided notes and streaming media mini-lessons to present material from the text each week.  Our learning management system will be Blackboard.

WARNING: Online courses are intended for students with high-speed internet access.  You can use campus computers for high-speed internet access if you do not have it at home.  You will also need to be able to read and print pdf documents (free software downlowd is available).  The computer you use should have speakers.
