Head Coach - Ron Jenkins

Ron Jenkins is beginning his 7th season as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Muskegon Community College. The 2010-2011 season was a great success considering the Jayhawks only had one sophomore (Paris Thomas, currently playing at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania). The team finished the season as MCCAA Western Conference Champions and also finished 2nd in the state tournament. In 2008-2009 the Lady Jayhawks finished as MCCAA Western Conference Champions, NJCAA Region XII Champions and they earned a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament, finishing 17th in the nation. In addition two players earned NJCAA Division II All-American status. Darcell Williams earned 1st Team All-American and Lenisha Williams earned 3rd Team All-American.  The 2007-2008 team compiled a 14-0 conference record and a 29-3 overall record. “We are family, we are one, and together we will achieve”. Coach Jenkins was named the MCCAA Coach of the Year, the NJCAA Region XII District G Coach of the Year and also the BCAM College Coach of the year.   Also, in 2009-2010, Coach Jenkins had the privilege of coaching Whitney Davis who was also 1st Team All-American. Whitney went on to sign Division 1.  

Prior to becoming the head coach of the Jayhawks,  Jenkins coached the Varsity Women’s Basketball team at Western Michigan Christian High School for seven seasons and was named the Muskegon Chronicle Sports writers All-Area Coach of the year in the seasons of 2001 and 2006. In addition, he was the Head Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and 1st Assistant to the Varsity Basketball team for ten years under the leadership of Coach James Goorman, totaling 17 years of coaching experience. Coach Jenkins was also a four year lead manager for the Muskegon Heights Women’s Basketball program under the leadership of Dorothy Gill-Jackson, who leads the Muskegon area in women’s basketball wins. Coach Gill-Jackson was named Coach of the Year in 1995 by the Michigan High School Coaches Association. “We prepare today for tomorrow’s success”.
 

For seven years he coached during the summer months at Michigan State University, under the leadership of one of the most recognized coaches in women’s basketball history, Coach Joanne P. McCallie, where he was involved in team and player development.  

Ron is a graduate and alumni of Muskegon Heights High School, where he played basketball all four years of his high school career. His educational experiences include attending Michigan State University and he attended Muskegon Community College to pursue his degree in Education/Criminal Justice. “Our Success is determined by what we do in the classroom first”. In addition he has completed the Athletic Coaches Education Program, and in 2004 the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports at Michigan State University. He is presently serving on the Muskegon Heights Public School Board as Vice President and is a Planning Commissioner for the City of Muskegon Heights. He is a member of Corinthians Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon.   Coach Jenkins resides in Muskegon Heights with his wife of 17 years, Lutevies, who is a secretary and musician at Corinthians Baptist Church. They are the parents of one son, Ronald Jr. who participates in sports (basketball, football, baseball) and also plays the drums. 

Assistant Coach - Sandra Bush 

Sandra Bush returns for her 11th season as assistant coach of the Jayhawk women's basketball program.

Sandra has always had a passion for the game of basketball.  Her basketball career began at Muskegon Heights High School.  She went on to play ball at Muskegon Community College and completed her college career at Saginaw Valley State University.  Sandra coached one year each at Muskegon Heights and Orchard View Schools as a varsity assistant coach.  She also worked Mike Ahren's "Big Man" camp in the summer.  Sandra enjoys being around people and mentoring young athletes.  It's no surprise that recruiting athletes is a rewarding part of her coaching.

Sandra is a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School.  She completed her Associate of Arts degree at Muskegon Community College and attended Saginaw Valley State University, completing courses in Accounting and Business Administration.

Sandra is employed by the County of Muskegon - Community Mental Health. She is a member of West Michigan Worship Center and is the mother of three children:  Sylvester, Spencer and Santrea.
