Student Employee Requirements

 Pre-employment

1.
Financial Aid
 
All student employees are required to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at the beginning of the year.  Usually right after the previous years federal taxes have been completed.
 
2.
Registration
 
All student employees must be registered for at least 6 credits during the semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in an eligible program of study.  If a student falls below 6 credits any time during the semester their employment will be terminated immediately.
 
3.
Student Employee Tax Forms
 
Completed tax forms are required before beginning work:
 
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification - (Must bring one of each: driver’s license or picture state ID card and original social security card).
  • W4 Federal Employees Withholding Allowance Certificate
  • MI-W4 Michigan Employees Withholding Exemption Certificate
  • Payroll Direct Deposit form (recommended)
  • Student Employee Confidentiality Agreement

MCC Student Employment Application
 
It is good to go online to fill out an application.  These are placed in a common share drive for supervisors to take a look at if they are looking for student employees.
 
5.

6.
Complete the Process
 
Return your completed Employment Tax Forms to the Financial Aid Office. Students are not authorized to begin working until all paperwork and signatures are received on the Student Authorization Form each semester. Starting pay rate is $7.40 an hour.  A Student Authorization Form is required for each semester a student works.
 

Continued Employment
Students are required to file a FAFSA for each school year.  If you need more assistance, please contact 231.777.0221.
