 Bus 101 Online Orientation Fall 2008 Section F06

There will be an on campus orientation Wednesday August 27, 2008 from 6:00-7:00PM in room 160.  You should plan on attending even if you have taken online classes before as we will be using several different web sites.  I can be contacted by e-mail at:  Larry.Swisher@muskegoncc.edu or phone 231-777-0290 (office).

Prior to attending the orientation, you should go to: http://mccbb.muskegoncc.edu. (Course web site) and download a copy of the syllabus and read it and bring it to the orientation.

INSTRUCTIONS TO ACCESS COURSE WEB SITE:

Login: same as you use for email and network login (see below)

Password: same as you use for email and network login (see below)

Each student has their own @muskegoncc.edu email address.  Example: firstname.lastname@muskegoncc.edu

Each student also has their own account to access network resourses. 

Username format   Password Format
Firstname.Lastname   First Initial + Last Initial + Student Number + !
Example: John.Smith   Example:   jsa54321!

·         Each student has 25MB of storage space on the network.

·         Email can be accessed from anywhere with internet connectivity.

·         Your home directory can be accessed from anywhere with internet connectivity.

WHO SUCCEEDS:

1)      You should be able and willing to devote 6-8 hours per week on the course.  Any less time and you will probably fail.

2)      You must be very self motivated and really want to take the course. If you have not taken online courses before, you should take the student Distance Learning Quiz found under Online Classes at http://www.muskegoncc.edu/pages/635.asp to see if online classes would be a good fit for you.

3)      You do not procrastinate and stay on top of things.  Each chapter is the foundation for the next chapter.  If you do not get one chapter, you have to go back and get it down before you can move on to the next chapter.  All tests are cumulative.

4)      You are a good reader.

 Minimum System Requirements:

  • Pentium Computer
  • at least 128 MB RAM
  • at least 133 MHz processor
  • Sound card
  • CD ROM drive
  • at least 28.8 k bps modem
  • at least Windows 98 or higher

Needed Software

  • Reliable e-mail account (a MUST) you should use the MCC email account that has been set up for you.
  • Internet connection (ISP) and Browser (Internet Explorer)
  • Microsoft Word

You should be able to:

  • Send and receive e-mail
  • Send attachments with an e-mail
  • View, save, and print attachment to an e-mail
  • Download files, if necessary
  • Visit URLs
  • Navigate web using basic browser methods
  • Post and reply to discussion threads
  • Cut and Paste
  • Use basic word processing skills
