Coach Dave Schlump started his coaching career at Evart High School and Kent City High School. In 1991 he accepted the position of Varsity Basketball Coach at Cedar Springs High School. The school had suffered through a 30 game losing streak spanning over the two previous seasons. During his first season he, along with his coaching staff and the athletes, were immediately able to halt the losing streak. From there he began to build the foundation for a successful high school basketball program. Coach Schlump said “throughout my 14 seasons at Cedar Springs I was fortunate to coach many outstanding basketball players, and more importantly, outstanding young men. “ He went on to say “I have been pleased to send many of these players to the college level to continue their education and playing careers.”

At the conclusion of the 2003-2004 season, Coach Schlump felt he was ready for the next challenge in his coaching career. He pursued an Assistant Coach position at Ferris State University where he had previously earned his Bachelor’s Degree. While at FSU he helped the program achieve success in the GLIAC. During his time there the Bulldogs won a Conference Championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 nationally. While at Ferris he gained valuable experience with the overall operation of a college basketball program. This experience includes recruiting and prospective player evaluations along with day to day practice organization and individual skill development.

Coach Schlump is retired from Cedar Springs Public Schools. He lives in Cedar Springs with his wife of 29 years, Teresea. They have three children; Josh who is 28 and a graduate of FSU, Elyse who is 25 and is in her 2nd year as an assistant coach at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY and Dan who is 19 and is attending MCC this fall.

ASSISTANT COACH - JIMMY BOOTH

Jimmy Booth is entering his third year as an assistant coach for the Jayhawk’s men basketball program. He is a 2004 graduate of Cedar Springs High School where he was coached by current MCC Head Coach Dave Schlump. Jimmy was a three year varsity player earning all-conference and all-area honors in his final two seasons. Jimmy was a key contributor in helping his team win a conference championship for the first time in over 25 years as well as recording a perfect 20-0 regular season.

After high school, Booth played at MCC for one year before transferring to Grace Bible College to finish his schooling and play for the Tigers. He helped lead his team to their first National Championship in the NCCAA while also earning several all-tournament team honors and team MVP. Booth left Grace Bible College as the leading all time rebounder and top ten in scoring.  He graduated from Grace in 2009 with a Bachelors Degree in Religious Education as well as earning his degree from Davenport University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s in Business Management.

After college, Coach Booth was an assistant coach for the boys’ varsity basketball team at Cedar Springs High School for three years. While with the Cedar program he also helped out with their youth rocket program, coaching kids ranging from third grade to fifth grade.

Coach Booth, along with his wife of six years, lives in Sparta where he is pursuing his teacher’s certificate in elementary mathematics.
