Overbrook Art Gallery Celebrates Work of International Artist
Bazzi, an award-winning educator for Dearborn Public Schools in Detroit, was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His family immigrated to the United States in 1978 during the Lebanese Civil War. His artwork reflects the strife of war, and also life in his Detroit community, which he explains as an experience of “a ceaseless [nascence] of consecutive, turbulent waves of… social, historical and psychological crisis.”
The exhibition is in conjunction with MCC’s annual Global Awareness Festival, an educational reflection of a different region of the world and a celebration of its people, its culture and its contributions to the rest of the world. Running from Feb. 6-10, this year’s focus will be on the Middle East.
Gallery hours are between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with special weekend and evening hours during performances at the adjacent Overbrook Theater.
