MCC will celebrate Earth Week on Wednesday, April 25, with nature hikes and the Chris Bedford Arts and Awards Festival on campus. The events, which are part of the 2012 Muskegon Area Earth Week, are free and open to the public and intended to promote environmentally friendly ideas, initiatives, and projects throughout the community.

Actiivities at MCC include:

  • Green Ribbon Campaign, ribbons will be handed out from 12:30-1:00 p.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m. near the entrance to the Blue and Gold room.  The ribbons were put together by MCC’s Garden Club members in conjunction with MCC’s Sustainability Task Force.

  • Tours of the Kasey Hartz Nature Trail, located behind the MCC main building, begin at 4 p.m. at the Nature Trail entrance and at 5 p.m. starting at the Overbrook Theater. The trail is named in honor of  the late MCC Distinguished Faculty member and biology instructor who organized MCC’s participation in the first Earth Day in 1970.
  • A film, “Getting Real about Food and the Future,” by the late Chris Bedford will be shown at 6 p.m. in Overbrook Theater. A discussion of the inspiring filmmaker and his impact on the West Michigan environment will take place. Collaborative artwork by local poets and children will be displayed and regional environmental projects will be highlighted.
