Jaclyn Tanner

What is your hometown and what high school did you attend?Hesperia, MI, Hesperia High School

When did you attend MCC?
2002-2004

Why did you choose MCC?
I came to MCC to play basketball.

What was your favorite class and your favorite instructor?
My favorite class was Anatomy and Physiology. My favorite instructor was Mr. Rypma.

After MCC, where did you attend college and how did going to MCC first help you?
I transferred to Grand Valley State University. At MCC I was able to see first-hand how athletes benefit from having an Athletic Trainer, which made my decision to work in sports medicine that much easier. Not only did my credits transfer, but I knew what would be expected of me as an Athletic Trainer student at Grand Valley.

What degree and area of study did you graduate with?
I graduated from GVSU with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training.

Where do you live now and what is your current occupation?
I live in the Muskegon area and work at Mercy Health as an Athletic Trainer. I work as a clinician and manager at the Physical Therapy Clinic in Whitehall, as well as the Athletic Trainer for Holton High School.

What are your activities and hobbies?
Traveling, sports, hiking and spending time with family

Do you have any recommendations for current MCC students?
If you know what university you plan to transfer to, compare their class requirements to the classes MCC offers. Your credits may all transfer. Just make sure your transferring the credits you need.

What is your hometown and what high school did you attend?
I graduated from Spring Lake High School, Spring Lake, MI.

When did you attend MCC?
I attended MCC in 2002-2003.

Why did you choose MCC?
I choose to attend MCC so I could play baseball and basketball.

What was your favorite class and your favorite instructor?
My favorite classes were philosophy and physical education classes (weight training, basketball, baseball, etc.). I can’t remember their name but my math for elementary teachers instructor and calculus instructor were two excellent teachers. They made me a much better math teacher.

After MCC, where did you attend college and how did going to MCC first help you?
I attended Saginaw Valley State University. MCC gave me a good foundation for my education. It gave me the necessary credits to start into the college of education when I got to SVSU. It also sparked my interest in a number of subjects and classes that I continued to take at Saginaw Valley.

What degree and area of study did you graduate with?
I graduated from SVSU with a bachelor’s degree for elementary education with a minor in math and English.

Where do you live now and what is your current occupation?
I now live in Charlotte, NC and am a middle school math teacher.

What are your activities and hobbies?
Sports, hiking, traveling and running.

Do you have any recommendations for current MCC students?
I would say take a variety of classes. I took philosophy and I thought I would hate it but I ended up loving it. I found many professors at MCC to be very good teachers. They helped me to become a better teacher. Also take some PE classes as they are a lot of fun as well. Get involved any way that you can because college is the best time of your life.
