Hello, I am the full-time geographer at Muskegon Community College. My first degree was a B.S. from Western Michigan University in 1987 and I earned an M.S. in Physical Geography from Eastern Michigan University in 1997.

I am a teacher and have been working in the classroom since 1987. I teach all of the current geography courses at MCC and am currently developing new activities and new courses to add to the MCC geography program.

My research has focused on local weather phenomena and the art of teaching physical geography. Bicycle touring is how I “feel” the earth and experience geography. Numerous slides and stories from my adventures are incorporated in class activities. I really find that travel and adventure are important for me in keeping current in geography. If you have questions about any of the geography courses feel free to contact me. My office is in room 208, or you can find my mailbox in room 242 the Social Science Department. I welcome questions about any and all aspects of geography.

I began my professional career in sonar for the U.S. Navy. In 1971 after completing a B.S. degree at Eastern Michigan University I worked for a short time as a petroleum geologist and then began working as a middle school science teacher. I taught 8th grade for science 30 years, in that time I earned an M.S., also from Eastern Michigan University , with a concentration in earth science. At MCC I teach GEOG-101A Physical Geography.

I am an avid cyclist and whenever the weather is cooperative I ride my bicycle or go SCUBA diving.

My office is in room 208.

West Africa is where I call home and visit many in my family. In 1994 I earned a B.A. from the University Sierra Leone in Geography. Here in Michigan I earned an M.A. in Urban Planning and Regional Development and a Masters of Development Administration, both from Western Michigan University. Former Director of the Refugee Resettlement Center in Grand Rapids, my work brings me in contact with people from all over the world; this has enhanced my understanding of world cultures and how governmental policies affect refugees.

At MCC I am teaching GEOG 102 (Cultural Geography), GEOG 105 (World Regional Geography), ANTH 103 (Contemporary Cultural Diversity), and ANTH 110 (Introduction to Anthropology)..

My office is in the Social Sciences Dept., room 242.
