Competency Examinations for CIS 100, CIS 110, and CIS 120A
NOTE: Passing any of the CIS competencies tests allows you to waive the class as a course prerequisite for other classes at MCC. You DO NOT receive credit for the class and the results of the competency test are not transferred to other colleges or universities.

Competency Tests
CIS 100: This competency test is in two parts: a 20 question multiple-choice test over computer concepts and a hands on computer test covering terms and concepts associated with using the Windows operating system. The multiple-choice test must be taken first at the Testing Center in room 134. Arrangements are made by calling 231.777.0394. The test can only be taken once and a score of 80% or better is needed to pass the test. If you pass this test, then you can make arrangements to take the hands on computer test at the OSE Lab in room 260. Arrangements are made by calling 231.777.0478. The test can only be taken once and a score of 80% or better is needed on both tests in order to waive the class.
CIS 110: This competency test is in two parts: a 50 question multiple-choice test over computer concepts and a hands on computer test covering Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Photoshop. The multiple-choice test must be taken first at the Testing Center in room 134. Arrangements are made by calling 231.777.0394. The test can only be taken once and a score of 80% or better is needed to pass the test. If you pass this test, then you can make arrangements to take the hands on computer test at the OSE Lab in room 260. Arrangements are made by calling 231.777.0478. The test can only be taken once and a score of 80% or better is needed on both tests in order to meet the graduation requirement and to waive the class as a prerequisite.
CIS 120A: This competency test is in two parts: a 50 question multiple-choice test over computer concepts and a hands on computer test covering Word, Excel, Access and computer programming in one of the following languages: Visual Basic, QBASIC, RPG, C+, Java, COBOL, Pascal or FORTRAN. The multiple-choice test must be taken first at the Testing Center in room 134. Arrangements are made by calling 231.777.0394. The test can only be taken once and a score of 80% or better is needed to pass the test. If you pass this test, then you can make arrangements to take the hands on computer test at the OSE Lab in room 260. Arrangements are made by calling 231.777.0478. The test can only be taken once and a score of 80% or better is needed on both tests in order to meet the graduation requirement and to waive the class as a prerequisite.
