Dress Code

Students attending classroom/laboratory learning experiences at the College are subject to the dress code outlined in the College Student Handbook under the heading Dress Code.

Students are subject to the following dress code during their clinical experience unless contraindicated by clinical agency policy:

1.       A clean, navy blue scrub top and pants.  A white knit, short or 3/4 sleeved shirt may be worn under the scrub top.

2.       A white warm-up jacket is worn over the top and pants.

3.      A Muskegon Community College Nursing Program Emblem Patch will be sewn on the navy blue scrub top and jacket by Her and His Uniforms.  On the top, it will be centered above the left pocket with the bottom edge 1 inch above the pocket.  On the jacket, it will be placed on the left side with the bottom edge level with the second snap.

4.      A white, plastic MCC photo ID is to be worn on the top or jacket at all times when on duty. 

5.       White hose and clean, white or navy blue, washable duty shoes are to be worn.

6.       A wristwatch that measures seconds is to be worn.

7.       A stethoscope, bandage scissors, and a penlight are required (included in NUR 123 Lab Kit).

8.      During clinical preparation, orientations, and observations students are required to wear the white warm-up jacket over professional street clothes (jeans, mini skirts, open toe shoes, and shorts are prohibited) or the full uniform (as previously described above) is to be worn.

 

Uniforms may only be purchased at Her and His, 754 W. Pine Street, Muskegon, 49442, 728-3986.  Please see below for acceptable style numbers.

 

Students are subject to the following personal appearance regulations during their clinical preparation, experience, orientations, and observations: 

1.       Hair, body, and dress are to be neat, clean and well groomed.  Long hair must be tied back with a small, plain accessory.

2.       No perfume or cologne is to be worn.

3.       Makeup is to be worn in moderation. 

4.       Fingernails are to be trimmed short and free of polish.  Artificial nails are prohibited.

5.       Gum chewing is prohibited.

6.       Tattoos must be acceptable based on compliance with agency requirements.

7.       Small, simple items of jewelry may be worn.

8.       No visible piercing other than ears.

 

The student is to maintain professional behavior at all times when in the uniform of the Muskegon Community College Nursing Program.
