Women’s Soccer Wins Three in a Row

The Jayhawks were at home against Kellogg CC Wednesday, Oct. 16 winning 9-1. MCC is on a win streak that started Oct. 9 against Lake Michigan College. The Jayhawks have outscored the opponents 18-3 in their three game win streak.

Leading the way for MCC was sophomore Ashley Taylor (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores HS) with three goals. Six other Jayhawks were able to score: freshman Taylor Walker (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS), sophomore Alyssa Panozzo (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS), freshman Brett Fox (Shelby, MI/Shelby HS), sophomore Tamera Crosby (Muskegon, MI/Western Michigan Christian HS), sophomore Nikole Heinig (Costa Mesa, CA/Mona Shores HS), and sophomore Hannah Forner (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS).

The Jayhawks will look to extend their win streak in Battle Creek, Mich. against Kellogg CC on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1pm.

Women’s Soccer Dominates Jackson CC

The Jayhawks traveled to Jackson, Mich. Oct 13 to play Jackson College. MCC dominated Jackson the entire game winning 5-0. The Jayhawks are on a two–game streak and will look to keep it going against Kellogg CC.

Jayhawks had multiple players scoring goals including sophomore Amanda Whiting (Shelby, MI/Shelby HS) with 2 goals, sophomore Tamira Crosby Muskegon, MI/West Michigan Christian HS), sophomore Anna Carmean (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS), sophomore Ashlee Taylor (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores HS)

The Jayhawks will be in action next Wednesday, Oct 16 at Orchard View HS. Game time is 4pm and this is their “Pink Game” so wear pink and help the Jayhawks support Cancer Awareness.

Women’s Soccer Beats Lake Michigan College

The Jayhawks traveled to Benton Harbor, Mich. to play this Wednesday, Oct 9. MCC beat Lake Michigan College 4-2.

Scoring for the Jayhawks were: Sophomore Ashlee Taylor(Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores HS), sophomore Alyssa Panozzo (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS), sophomore Linsye Haan (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS) and freshman Taylor Walker (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS)

The Jayhawks will be in action next this weekend Sunday, Oct. 13 at Jackson Community College in Jackson, Mich. game time is 3:00pm

Women’s Soccer Loses 3-0

Two late goals gave the host Cincinnati State Tech women’s soccer squad a 3-0 win over MCC on Saturday.

Now 2-1-8, the Jayhawks managed just four shots in the contest, while MCC keeper Hayley Twigg recorded 11 saves. The Jayhawks travel to Lake Michigan College on Wednesday.

Schoolcraft Downs Women’s Soccer 5-0

The 14th ranked Schoolcraft College women’s soccer team shutout visiting MCC 5-0 on Sunday, Sept. 29.

“We came out flat today early and could not find the final ball in the attacking third to score,” said MCC Coach Josh Watson, whose team fell behind 3-0 at halftime. “We once again dug ourselves a hole early. Schoolcraft played very well today and deserved the win.”

“I keep telling the ladies that we are going to turn it around and we are very close to figuring it out. We are getting deeper into the season now and are running out of time to figure things out. I have complete confidence in this team to be successful and get out of this funk that they are in but it has got to start very soon.”

Watson praised the play of two Jayhawks – Linsye Haan and Anna Carmean. MCC is now 2-7-1 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Women’s Soccer In a Nail Bitter

MCC lost 2-1 in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, Sept. 28 against host Owens CC. The Jayhawks scored the first goal of the game and lead 1-0 at halftime. Sophomore Linsye Haan (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS) scored a great left foot volley from Sophomore Alyssa Panozzo (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS) service.

Owens scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second half and MCC didn’t recover. MCC’s record is now 2-6-1 overall and 1-4 in their league. The Jayhawks will be in action again tomorrow Sunday, Sept. 29 against Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Mich.

Women’s Soccer Topples Cincy 3-1

The MCC women’s soccer squad beat visiting Cincinnati State Tech & CC 3-1 on Saturday, Sept 21, at Orchard View High School. Leading 1-0 at halftime, the Jayhawks added two second half goals.

“The girls are playing more aggressive and it’s helping their scoring,” said MCC Head Coach Josh Watson. “The ladies are showing glimpses of quality play. However, for us to be where we want to be the play needs to be quality for the entire game. I have faith they we will be where we want to be by the end of the season. The ladies have strong character and are a very tight team.”

Sophomore Ashlee Taylor (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores HS) scored for MCC with two minutes left in the first half from an assist by sophomore Linsye Haan (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS). Sophomore Alyssa Panozzo (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS) scored the first goal of the second half with a header from from sophomore Anna Carmean’s (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS) a cornerkick in the 57th minute. Taylor’s second goal of the game came off a great pass by Timera Crosby with 12 minutes remaining.

Freshman goalie Hayley Twigg (Fremont, MI/Fremont HS) had seven saves for MCC. The Jayhawks will play again next Saturday Sept. 28th against Owens CC in Toledo, Ohio at 3pm.

Women’s Soccer Routs Lake Michigan with Six Second Half Goals

The MCC women’s soccer team shutout Lake Michigan College 6-0 at Orchard View High School on Wednesday, Sept 11, for its first win of the season.

“We played a really slow and uninspired first half of the game,” said Coach Josh Watson. “The second half was a totally different team. We worked hard and for each other. We have been waiting for the ladies to play like this for a couple of games now.” 

After not scoring on four first half shots on goal, the Jayhawks exploded for six goals in the second half.

Sophomore Linsye Haan (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS) scored two goals at 55:58 and 70:36. Sophomore Alyssa Panozzo scored two goals at 61:30 and 87:83. Panozzo got help from sophomore Anna Carmean (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS) and freshman Taylor Walker (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer HS) with assists. Sophomore Amanda Whitting (Shelby, MI/Shelby HS) and sophomore Ashlee Taylor (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores HS) also scored goals to finish the best half of scoring for the Jayhawks this season.

MCC looks to continue its scoring streak in conference play against Kellogg CC this Saturday, Sept 14th at 1pm on the Orchard View High School.

Jackson College Edges Women’s Soccer 3-2

The Jayhawks played Jackson College at Orchard View HS this Saturday, Sept 7th. MCC came up just short of victory, losing in overtime 3-2. In an exciting first half Sophomore Timera Crosby (Muskegon, MI/West Michigan Christian HS) started out fast scoring in the third minute on a nicely placed assist from sophomore Linsye Haan (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport HS). The Jets answered back in the 10th minute with a goal of their own to tie the game up 1-1.

In the second half sophomore Ashlee Taylor (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores HS) scored from an assist by Crosby at the 50 minute mark. The Jets didn’t waste time scoring five minutes later, tying the game 2-2. Three minutes into overtime the Jets scored the game winning goal on a penalty kick from inside the box.

“Haan played a very good game.” said Head Coach Josh Watson. “Her poise in the middle of the pitch was great.” Watson added, “Timera played her best game since becoming a Jayhawk. Overall the girls played great. The score doesn’t always indicate how well you played.” The Jayhawks will be in action tomorrow Sunday, Sept. 8th at Orchard View HS against Delta College, game starts at 1pm.

Women’s Soccer Ties Alma JV

The MCC Jayhawk Girls’ Soccer team ended in a 0-0 draw against Alma College Reserves at Alma on Sunday, Sept.1.

Head Coach Josh Watson was happy with the girls performance, “Today was the best that the ladies have played this season,” he said. “The effort and communication was great.”

The Jayhawks controlled most of the game; Alma only had few chances on counter attacks. “The girls played unselfish and it showed.” added Coach Watson. The women return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Orchard View High School against Jackson Community College.

Owens Edges Women’s Soccer 2-1

The MCC women’s soccer team lost its second one-match goal in as many days when visiting Owens CC edged the Jayhawks 2-1 on Sunday, August 25, at Orchard View High School. MCC lost 1-0 to Schoolcraft in the season opener on the same field on Saturday.

Owens led 2-0 at intermission on goals by Abby Groll and Jill Burkholder. MCC trimmed the lead with sophomore forward Timera Crosby’s (Muskegon, MI/West Michigan Christian) goal off an Anna Carmean (Fruitport, MI/Fruitport) assist. Freshman Hayley Twigg (Fremont, MI/Fremont) had five saves for MCC.

“MCC showed a lot of heart in the second half being down 2-0 in the first half,” said MCC Head Coach Josh Watson. “The back five again played a good hard fought game for MCC. I am very proud of how the ladies responded in the second half today.”

Schoolcraft Beats Women’s Soccer 1-0 on Late Goal

A goal by Schoolcraft College’s Kelly McKay in the final five minutes was the only score in MCC’s 1-0 season-opening loss at Orchard View High School on Saturday, August 24.

“We played really well in the first half, creating three quality opportunities to score,” said MCC Coach Josh Watson. “The back five played very well today. For our first game of the season and playing one of the top teams in our league, I thought the ladies played well. We still have a lot of work ahead of us but with the kind of work they put in today I have no doubts we will get to where we want to be at the end of the season.”
