Muskegon Community College opened conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Glen Oaks Community College by scores of 9-5 and 10-3.
In game one MCC outhit GOCC 12-7. At the end of 6 innings MCC held a slim 1 run lead but they scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to secure the win. Jon Henry (Ajax HS/Ontario Canada) was the winning pitcher, working 5 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out five. Sean Casey (Grand Haven HS) threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Tanner Morren (Allendale HS) and Tommy McCullough (Allendale HS) were both 2-3 and Jake Soules (Troy HS) and Jake Conklin (Holland Calvary Christian HS) finished 2-4.
Game two saw MCC continuing to swing the bats with 14 more hits while limiting Glen Oaks to only 3 hits. Zack Northcott (Walled Lake Northern HS) got the win for MCC. He surrendered 3 runs on 3 hits over 6 innings, striking out 4. Jeremy Karthan (Brunswick OH HS) threw an inning of relief out of the bullpen. Soules continued to sizzle at the plate going 3-4 with 4 RBI and Tyus Beach (East Kentwood HS) was also 3-4 with 2 RBI.
With the sweep MCC moves to 2-0 in conference play and 12-4 overall. They return to action with a non-conference doubleheader at home vs. Cleary University JV on 3/25. First pitch is at 3:00 pm.
