Muskegon Community College earned a split with the #5 Kellogg Community College, losing game one 10-4 then winning game two 9-7.
In game one KCC scored 10 times in the 2nd inning and outhit MCC 16-10. Mitch Gumbko (Forest Hills Northern HS) finished the game 3-3 and Nolan Perrin (Hudsonville HS) was 2-3.
In the nightcap it was the Jayhawks who pounded out 16 hits in the victory. KCC held a 6-4 lead after 5 innings of play before MCC scored 2 runs in the 6th inning for the tie and 3 runs in the 7th for the lead. KCC would score a run in the bottom of the 7th but it wasn’t enough as MCC earned the split. Marty McDonald (Traverse City Central HS) earned the win on the mound. He was supported by Luke Lacross (Traverse City West HS) who was 4-5 with 2 RBI and Gumbko who stayed hot with a 3-4 game. Cal Kryska (Grandville HS) and Shane Thompson (Sault Area HS) each added 2 hits.
MCC is now 12-8 in conference play and 22-17-1 overall. They return to the field on Friday, 4/30 when they host Lake Michigan College in a doublheader that is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm.
