The Jayhawk Baseball team got good pitching and plenty of offense in two victories over Bay College, 7-1 and 14-1.
In the opener Colton Blankstrom (Montague) allowed only 1 run on 4 hits and no walks with 8 strikeouts. Cole Olson (Central Montcalm) was 3-3 with a double and a homerun. Kenton Vander Wal (W. MI Aviation Academy), Sam Mitcham (Sinclair Secondary, Canada) and Abdiel Gonzalez (Lake Orion) each finished 2-3. MCC finished with 11 hits in the game.
In game 2 MCC scored early and often on the way to a run-rule shortened game. Once again the team got outstanding pitching from freshman Cody Matuz (Fruitport) who allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk. Luke Linder (Traverse City Central) finished 2-2 with a home run, good for 3 RBI and Cole Olson stayed hot with 2 more hits including a home run and 3 RBI. Bryce Lesher (St. Joe) and Aaron Sander (Fruitport) both finished 2-3 and Tanner Tresemer (Zeeland) also had a round tripper. The Jayhawks stole a total of 9 bases in the game.
MCC is now 4-0 in conference play and 10-17 overall. They wrap up the series with Bay College with 3 games on Monday, 4/3. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
