The Jayhawk Cross-Country teams wrapped up the 2020 season at the NJCAA D2 National Championship in Fort Dodge, IA.
The Women’s team finished in 12th place overall, led by Macy Whipple (Oakridge HS) who finished 39th in 21:01. The 12th place finish was an improvement on the 13th place ranking going into the meet. Also scoring for the Jayhawks was Faith Clark (Fruitport HS), Elizabeth Sible (Kent City HS), Hannah Finkler (Reeths-Puffer HS), and Alyssa Hussey (Reeths-Puffer HS).
The Men’s team improved two places from their ranking to finish 19th. Leading the way for the Jayhawks was Zach Ostoin (Reeths-Puffer HS), who finished in 79th with a time of 29:06. Also scoring for the men was Adam Wolffis (Montague HS), Parker Reynolds (North Muskegon HS), Jerry Mejia (West Ottawa HS), and Zach Pray (Fruitport HS).
“We feel really fortunate that we were able to complete a season safely in 2020”, said Head Coach Mike Smith. “Because of the circumstances, both teams grew very close.” Coach Smith continued, “I would like to extend a special thank you to Assistant Coach Katie Alfredson for taking such a positive leadership role and being a mentor to the athletes.”
