The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk Indoor Track & Field Teams opened the 2022-2023 campaign with the sprinters competing at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open.
For the men’s team, Zach Pray (Fruitport) picked up where he left off last season, running 50.55 in the 400m (currently 2nd in the country) and 22.8 in the 200m (14th in the country). Payton Dobben (Reeths-Puffer) bested his last year’s 200m mark by .7, finishing in 23.85. Also competing in their first collegiate meet were freshmen Spencer Anderson (Oakridge) in the 60m hurdles and the 400m run, Gavin Anderson (Oakridge) in the pole vault and Ryer Glass (Grand Haven) in the 60m dash and the 200m dash.
The women’s team had a group of three former Jayhawk soccer players who competed in the 400m run; Emma Dyer (Montague), Lainey Canan (Zeeland East) and Tori Van Tamelen (Hamilton) finished in 1:08, 1:09 and 1:11 respectively.
The Jayhawks travel to Saginaw Valley State University with full teams on Saturday, 1/14 for the SVSU Classic.
