2023 started off with a lot of positives for the Jayhawk Men’s and Women’s Track teams at the Saginaw Valley State University Classic.
For the men, Zachary Pray (Fruitport) picked up where he left off last season with a 1st place overall win in the men’s 400m dash (50.65). Pray added a 5th overall in the men’s 200m dash and was a member of the 4th place 4x400m team (Pray, Payton Dobben (Reeths-Puffer), Easter and Dean). Isaac Easter (West Ottawa) matched the school record in the long jump (6.38m) and finished 7th overall in the finals. Gavin Anderson (Oakridge) matched his PR in the pole vault at 3.95m and finished 4th overall. Kyler Dean (Vicksburg) opened up his indoor track career racing in the 600m (2nd overall) and the mile (9th overall); both marks are good for top 10 in the NJCAA nationally.
Competing for the women’s team in the 600m was Faith Clark (Fruitport) with a 7th place finish, Neva Hundt (Whitehall) with a 10th place finish and Sierra Vanderwier (Fruitport) with a 14th place finish. Racing the 300m open were our trio of Soccer players turned sprinters Lainey Canan (Zeeland East), Emma Dyer (Montague) and Tori Van Tamelen (Hamilton).
The Jayhawks will be back in action on Saturday January 21st at the Mike Lints Alumni Meet at GVSU.
