The MCC Men’s Basketball Team headed north to play against Alpena Community College, but they were not able to get the win, dropping a 68-57 decision to the Lumberjacks.
MCC was once again shorthanded as they continued to play without their starting point guard. They started a “big” line-up against the smaller Alpena team. Alpena jumped out with a 7-0 run as MCC’s leading scorer struggled to adjust to a box and one defense and they found themselves down 34-24 at half time. They were able to pick up their offense in the 2nd half and pulled to within 6 points, but Alpena converted on key free throws down the stretch and held on for the win. Vern Nash III (Muskegon) finished with 13 points, Jadakiss Lewis (Kalamazoo) added 12 points, 2 steals and 6 rebounds and Tate Stine (Montague) also finished in double digits with 12 points. Jacob May (Ravenna) pulled down 11 rebounds.
MCC is now 3-6 in conference play and 9-14 overall. They return to action with a key game at Grand Rapids Community College on Wednesday, 2/15 with tip off scheduled for 7:30 pm.
