Muskegon Community College defeated the Lumberjacks of Alpena Community College by a score of 93-81.
The Jayhawks got off to a sluggish start and found themselves down by 8 at the half 48-40. However, the Jayhawks found their groove and were able to hold Alpena to just 33 points in the second half while exploding for 53 and walking way with the victory. Josh Smith (Lansing Waverly HS) led all scorers with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Travez Nyx (Wayne Memorial HS) had a big night as well, recording his first career triple double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
“We didn’t play well at all in the first half, we missed about 4 easy lay ups to start and weren’t on the same page defensively,” said Head Coach Jimmy Booth. “We really challenged them at halftime and they responded. They had better energy and focus and were able to come way with a win.”
The Jayhawks are now 4-3 on the young season. They return to the court with trip to Aquinas College on Tuesday, 12/11. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
