Muskegon Community College defeated Mid Michigan College at home on Sophomore night by a score of 84-76.
This was a big game for the Jayhawks as they were faced up against a top 4 team in the conference and a loss could send them out of playoff contentions. Fortunately for the Jayhawks, they were ready for the challenge and came out with some gritty defense. Forcing the Lakers to shoot 37% from the field and 24% from the three point line. Mid Michigan was able to keep it close as the Jayhawks were off on the offensive end as well. But MCC hit a big shot by Josh Smith, who was able to convert on a clutch corner three pointer to put the game away. Kylan Shipp led the Jayhawks with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Josh Smith added 23 points and 10 rebounds. Simon Obi chipped in with a double double. Scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds.
MCC is now 8-9 in conference play and 14-12 overall. They have qualified to compete in the NJCAA Region XII tournament and will play their first round game on Tuesday, 3/5 at a sight to be determined.
