The Jayhawks dropped a 94-88 contest to St. Clair County Community College in the home opener to the 2018-2019 season.
The two teams exchanged leads in the first half and St. Clair took a 3 point advantage into the locker room at the half, 46-43. With about 7 minutes left in the game the Jayhawks were down by12, but a Jayhawk 13-2 run after a time out cut the lead to 1. Missed layups and free throws down the stretch were costly and MCC couldn’t get any closer.
The Jayhawks were led by freshman Randy Frison III (Romulus HS) with 16 points on 6-11 shooting. Sophomores Josh Smith (Lansing Waverly HS) had 15 pts and Travez Nyx (Wayne Memorial HS) added 12 points.
“I thought we competed pretty well but did a very poor job of executing and I thought we were absolutely awful defensively for about 38 minutes,” said Head Coach Jimmy Booth. “That being said we still had a good shot at winning. We will learn from this and get better.”
MCC is now 1-1 on the early season. They return to the floor on Wednesday, 11/14 at Calvin College. Tip off is 7:30 pm.
